This is my blog about knitting and life. Keep checking back for updates.
I recently made the puppet below for my friends’ son, Ben. I modified a mitten pattern.
Materials:
- US size 13 DP needles
- 1/2 skein of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Super Bulky Weight yarn (6oz/108yrds)
- Scraps of a dark colored yarn (for eyes and nose)
- Stitch Holder
- CO 24 stitches.
- Knit about 20 rows.
- On your 21st row, knit until you get to the last 7 stitches. Slip these last 7 on to a stitch holder (for thumb).
- CO 4 stitches to close gap.
- Knit to end of round. (You can reverse yourself so you are now knitting inside out. This gives you the differing pattern you see on the head versus the body in the picture. Or, just knit as normal.)
- Knit to tip of pinkie.
- K2, K2 tog; Knit one around.
- K1, K2 tog; K2 tog.
- Cut yarn and draw through stitches.
- For Thumb: Slip 7 stitches from holder to needle.
- Pick up 4 stitches from around thumb hole.
- Knit to tip of thumb.
- K2 tog.
- K1, K2 tog.
- Cut yarn and draw through stitches.
- Weave in all ends

TO MAKE EARS:
- CO 2 stitches.
- Knit one row.
- Increase by 1 and knit 1 row until you get to 6 stitches.
- Bind off.
- Repeat to make second ear and sew them to puppet.
